Guiding the Future of Open Space & Trails

As Breckenridge’s trail system grew in popularity, the community faced increasingly complex questions around access, recreation, conservation, and future growth. CivicBrand joined the Open Space & Trails Master Plan team to ensure those decisions were grounded in the values and experiences of the people who use and care for these places.

Our work centered on branding, communications, and extensive public engagement where we led on-trail outreach, open houses, interviews, a project podcast, and an interactive project website. Rather than simply gathering input, we helped translate what we heard into a clear decision-making framework that shaped the direction of the master plan.

The result connected community values to practical choices about how Breckenridge’s open spaces and trails should grow, adapt, and be managed over time, giving future leaders a stronger foundation for navigating new opportunities and competing priorities.

Public Engagement

CivicBrand designed and led an extensive public engagement process that met people both in the community and directly on the trails. Public open houses, stakeholder interviews, and on-trail outreach provided firsthand insight from the people who use and care for Breckenridge’s open spaces.

Online surveys, interactive mapping, a dedicated project website, and a podcast series expanded participation and allowed the community to explore key issues in greater depth. Together, these efforts uncovered not just what people wanted, but the values and priorities that would ultimately help shape the master plan.

Capturing Open Space & Trails

As part of the project, CivicBrand developed a photography and video library capturing Breckenridge’s open spaces and trails across seasons and experiences. The content showcases both the adventure and natural beauty of the landscape, from winding trails and expansive views to the people who hike, bike, explore, and care for these places.

The resulting library gave the Town authentic, locally grounded content to support the master plan and ongoing Open Space & Trails communications.

Website Design

CivicBrand designed and developed the Breckenridge Open Space & Trails website as an ongoing resource for residents and visitors. The site brings together current trail conditions, interactive maps, trail etiquette, FAQs, and information about the more than 68 miles of trails and 5,130 acres of open space, making it easier for people to explore the system and recreate responsibly.

CivicBrand shot multiple videos showcasing Breckenridge’s trails and open space program, capturing the beauty and versatility of the landscapes across different seasons and highlighting the diverse recreational opportunities available year-round. Below is a highlight reel of shots from those videos.
